United Russia (UR) is the main pro-Putin party and it is in for a challenging year. UR's ratings are down. The economy is barely growing and trust in officials is falling. No wonder the state wants more control of the internet. Almost half of Russians regions with a directly elected governor have had their governor in post for under 12 months. Of the governors appointed since 2012 few are still en poste. Unpopularity has led to resignation or dismissal. In September 16 regional governors face re-election.
