5 Russian mercenaries killed in Mozambique

On October 27 five Russian mercenaries were reportedly killed in an ambush in Mozambique. In September 2019 it is reported that 200 Russian private military contractors from Wagner Group arrived in the African country. It is said that the Russian PMCs are there to fight Islamic extremists. Mozambique was once a Cold War ally of the USSR. Wagner Group is closely linked to Yevgeny Prigozhin. Prigozhin - known as 'the chef' - is a close confidante of Putin. Wagner Group and the Russian Government have declined to comment on the news story. Put it another way: no one has disputed that 5 Russians were killed in Mozambique. In 2018 Mozambique signed an agreement with Russia. This entailed Russia dispatching military advisers to the former Portuguese colony.
