Airlines not flying to Russia

On March 11 Air Astana and Pegasus Airlines said that they will not fly to Russia until further notice. The airlines said that this is because there are doubts that insurance will cover them. Air Astana is the national carrier of Kazakhstan and usually flies to 10 Russian cities and wishes to resume flights as soon as practicable. Pegasus cited operational risks because of EU sanctions.Insurance cover is often now invalid owing to sanctions. Russia could offer state financial guarantees to airlines but Russia can ill afford this.Flying from Russia to the rest of the cover world is easiest via the UAE, Turkey and Qatar.
