All eyes on CBRT and Ocalan
After the ousting of yet another CHP mayor, that of Istanbul borough Besiktas, CHP leader Ozgur Ozel declared war on Erdogan, promising unspeakable destruction. In reality, there is not much CHP can do to restrain Erdogan, perhaps short of quitting Grand Assembly sessions altogether. On the other hand, it is not clear what President Erdogan intends to achieve with the crackdown on DEM and CHP municipalities, at a juncture when he soon will need their voters to regain eligibility.
A breakthrough in AKP-MHP’s efforts to rekindle the Peace Process with Kurds may happen in a fortnight when the DEM Party delegation is expected to visit Ocalan a second time, and come back with a public appeal to PKK and PYD-YPG in Syria to disarm. Presumably afterwards AKP-MHP and DEM will sit down to negotiate on a new constitution.
