Alleged leak of US documents on the Ukraine War

RUSSIA / FSU POLITICS - In Brief 12 Apr 2023 by Alex Teddy

On April 9 scores of what are supposedly classified US document about the war were published on the internet without authorization. These included charts, maps and photos. Some of these were top secret. The documents details the weaknesses of both sides. Some documents date back to early March 2023 but were only published recently. They state what training and hardware the Ukraine Army has received. Some experts believe that most of the documents are genuine though some details appears to have been altered. There are commentators who think that at least some of the documents are hoaxes. The US documents say that Russia's winter campaign almost broke the Ukrainian air defense. Ukraine had trouble defending its cities, energy infrastructure and military. The documents show that countries that are arming Ukraine are discussing what arms to provide. The US estimated Russian casualties at 190,000 to 220,000. Ukrainian casualties are thought to be 125,000 to 130,000. However, it seems that the documents were forged here to inflate Ukrainian casualties. It is unclear who leaked these documents. The US is red-faced about the leaks. It is hard to believe that the US would have done this. The US has not emphatically denied the authenticity of the documents. The documents were leaked on a platform with a site popular with gamers. Ukraine suggested that the documents are a Russian psychological operation. Some say that the leaks are a Western bid to confuse Russia. The documents give no indication about what Ukraine's counter offensive will be.
