An Economy threatened by Protectionism and Uncertainty

Mexico’s economic perspectives have improved compared to the start of the year, but uncertainty remains high. US protectionism is a real threat, although markets can compensate for the negative effects. Private consumption seems to be holding in early 2017, but some decelerating factors will intensify during the year. Growth will shift gradually from the domestic market to exports. The fiscal accounts will weaken, and political risk will grow throughout the year. Tight fiscal and monetary policies are required to maintain economic stability and compensate for protectionist measures.
