Another political arrest: will it become fatal mistake for Poroshenko?

Breaking news was released on Saturday morning. The authorities arrested Gennadiy Korban, one of the leaders of political party UKROP (funded by Igor Kolomoysky). Officially he was blamed in organizing criminal group. In reality, the main crime of UKROP was their result on mayor’s elections in Dnipropetrovsk (Borys Filatov, comrade of Gennadiy Korban, took impressive result entering second round against Oleksandr Vilkil former Party of Regions MP). By no means we want to say that Gennadiy Korban is a positive hero – he is well-known raider and very likely he was arranging fraud on local elections (as some are saying). However, the big issue about this arrest is that Gennadiy Korban has been behaving this way for decades while real prosecution started only after UKROP threatened victory of a person who has better relations with president office than Kolomoyskiy does. Reaction of social nets for the arrest was very harsh. Well… we experienced a kind of dejavu to what we saw in 2013 after Viktor Yanukovitch refused signing EU Association Agreement. In fact, Gennadiy Korban disregard his raider biography, is seen among the key persons who prevented Russia’s capture of Dnipropetrovsk. He, as a member of Igor Kolomoyskiy team, had been supporting actively with funds and supplies soldiers at the eastern front. Kolomoyskiy and his comrades had been paying from their pockets for medical treatment of Ukrainian soldiers injured in actions. What more, in the time of absolute sluggishness of Ukrainian army many volunteering squads were organized at the expense of the guys like Gennadiy Korban.
