Argentina licenses Sputnik V

On December 23 Buenos Aires approved the Russian coronavirus vaccine. No other country in Latin America has done so. The first batch of 25 million doses of the vaccine are arriving in Argentina on December 24. The Argentina authorization is an ''emergency'' one as in they have not subjected Sputnik V to the usual rigorous inspections. The Argentines would normally insist on further clinical trials conducted by them.Argentina is negotiating with Pfizer and other companies about buying their vaccines. The Western vaccines are much more expensive than the Russian one. Russia is elated by its success in Argentina. It is a financial boost but also spreads influence in a country which previously had little contact with Russia.
