Armenia-Azerbaijan fighting intensifies

Fighting since September 27 has only spiraled up. Both countries have made outlandish claims about killing hundreds of enemy troops. Only 65 deaths are confirmed and some of these are civilians. Armenia broadcast images of what it said were destroyed Azerbaijani tanks and drones. This is the bloodiest bout since 2016 when over 100 lives were lost. There appears to be passionate warspite in both countries.Turkey is Azerbaijan's brother nation. Azerbaijan was once part of Turkey. Hundreds of Turks are fighting on Azerbaijan's side. Ankara's vocal support has been even more vociferous than usual. Yerevan accused the Turks of shooting down an Armenian warplane.PM Pashinyan of Armenian has warned of the possibility of full scale war. Since 1994 the two countries have regularly sparred but never fought and all out war. They are fighting over Nagorono-Karabakh. This region has always been ethnically Armenian but legally belongs to Azerbaijan. Moscow is mediating. Though Russia leans towards Armenia it does not wish to alienate Azerbaijan entirely. Russian diplomacy is broadly welcome by the West on this issue. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov is half Armenian. France has better relationship with Armenia than any other Western country. In 2011 France recognized the Armenian Genocide.The Azerbaijanis have been bombing the front line. Armenia accused their enemies of purposively targeting civilians. There was a serious clash between the two countries in July 2017. However, this round of fighting is more serious. Armenians in Moscow have been volunteering to go to fight for their homeland.
