At last, the Verdict is Final and Binding

The Indonesian General Election this year seemed to be like a roller coaster. At one time it was already at the peak of the process when the General Election Commission announced on July 22, 2014, that Joko (Jokowi) Widodo and Jusuf Kalla were the President and Vice President Elect of 2014 – 2019. However, that decision was later contested, by Prabowo, at the Constitutional Court on July 25, 2014. The Constitutional Court convened the court proceeding for a few weeks. Aside from the court proceeding at the Constitutional Court Building, Prabowo’s camp also tried to make pressure by mobilizing his “supporters” outside the Court Building. However, the court process continued unabated. In fact, the Court made the Final Verdict on August 21, 2014 evening which by law was set as the last day for the Constitutional Court decision. In the Verdict the Constitutional Court decided that the Prabowo’s appeal was rejected. Therefore Jokowi-JK won the election and become the President and Vice Presidential Elect until its inauguration on October 20, 2014. The Final verdict of the Constitutional Court is final and binding. With that there is no way that the contender continued to contest the decision within the current law system of General Election. Even though Prabowo’s camp would like to bring this issue to the Parliament, but within this current system that efforts will not change the result of the election. With that decision, Jokowi-JK has to move on in preparing for their term in office in October this year.
