Azerbaijan claims 4 troops killed on border

On December 13 Baku said that 4 of its soldiers were killed by Armenians. Armenia has not confirmed this. Baku has not provided any corroborating information such as the location of the deaths. Baku and Yerevan have exchanged accusations of breaking the ceasefire. The Armenians said that the Azerbaijani Army attacked a position held by them at Hadrut. Russia confirmed that there were clashes there on December 11.It is notable that so soon after the deployment of 2 000 Russian peacekeeper clashes have broken out afresh. One might have assumed that Azerbaijan would not dare provoke the wrath of Russia. But with fulsome Turkish backing the Azerbaijanis are emboldened. Perhaps Baku senses that Moscow is not committed to Armenia. Azerbaijan recently stated that almost 2 800 soldiers were killed in the recent six week war. The figure was previously secret. Armenia announced 2 300 soldiers' deaths in the same period. Armenia has a population under a third of Azerbaijan's.
