Belarus carries out combat readiness inspections

On December 13 Belarus announced the move. Ukraine is keeping an eye on the situation. It could be that Belarus is worrying Ukraine in order to oblige Ukrainians to guard their northern frontier and thereby take the pressure off the Russians in the east. Belarus did this earlier in 2022. Civilian movements have been limited by the military in Ukraine as Belarus moves troops and military hardware. Belarus is Russia's closest ally and has allowed Russia to use its territory to invade Ukraine. Ukraine seems fairly relaxed. It is thought unlikely that Belarus will invade Ukraine. Nevertheless Ukraine has deployed more forces to its northern border. On December 10 Belarus told the UN it would allow Ukraine to export grain via Belarus. This seems helpful to Ukraine. But does Belarus want an easing of sanctions in return?
