Belarus forces airliner to land

On May 23 Belarus obliged a Ryanair air flight in Belarussian airpsace to land at Minsk. The flight was due to land in Lithuania. Belarus claimed there was a bomb on the plane to make the pilot land. There are allegations that Belarussian intelligence officers on the plane even started a fight as a pretext for the emergency landing. The real reason that Belarus made the plane land was to arrest a dissident Belarussian journalist on board. The EU and US have reacted very strongly. There is talk of more sanctions for this 'air piracy'. The Irish airliner was later allowed to fly on to Lithuania.
