On August 6 several thousand people congressed in Minsk in support of Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya who is running for president. The rally had been planned by her but then the government suddenly withdrew permission. Gathering without permission is a crime in Belarus. Tsikhanouskaya canceled the rally as ordered. The government had suddenly organized a different event for the same location. Other presidential candidates and thousands of opponents of President Lukashenka met at the planned location anyway saying they were there for the government rally. Polling day is August 9. Early voting began on August 4. The government said that by the end of August 6 22% of people had already voted. The resilt may well be condemned as fraudulent by opposition candidates. Expect large scale protests. Bloodshed cannot be ruled out.
