On February 20 the US President made an unannounced visit to Ukraine. He assured the Ukrainians of unwavering American support. He also announced USD 500 million of additional arms deliveries. This will mostly be shells, howitzers and anti tank missiles. Biden met Zelensky at the Presidential Palace. It was the first presidential visit to Ukraine since 2008. Biden discussed the possibility of giving Ukraine long range weapons. Ukraine is said to be firing 6,000 shells a day. NATO and EU shell manufacturing cannot keep up. There are worries that Ukraine will run out of ammo. The EU is ramping up production but worries that it has dipped into its own stocks too much to provide shells to Ukraine. Biden will go to Poland on February 20. He will deliver a keynote address. China denied US claims that China is preparing to send lethal aid to Russia. The EU Foreign Policy Commissioner told China that if China did this then relations with the EU would sour.
