Supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) held demonstrations in several cities on Sunday, August 3. President Lula (PT) and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes were the primary targets of the protests. Congress resumes its activity this week amid a tense political atmosphere and a packed legislative agenda for the second half of the year. In the Lower House, one of the key items is a bill that would exempt individuals earning up to R$5,000 per month from income tax. In the Senate, lawmakers will consider the bill regulating Tax Reform (PLP No. 108/24). On Wednesday, August 6, the 50% tariff on Brazilian imports, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, is set to take effect.
