As Brazil struggles to open a negotiation channel with the United States, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad is expected to receive today from his economic team a set of proposals in response to the 50% tariff hike announced by Donald Trump on Brazilian products. These options will be presented to President Lula next week. One strategy Brazil is exploring to offset the expected export losses is to seek alternative markets. Yesterday, President Lula held a call with Mexico’s president. After the president of the Lower House blocked opposition protests in congressional committees, Bolsonaro's response is now pending a Supreme Court decision regarding the scope of the restrictions imposed on him by the Court. Although he is banned from using social media, his legal team argues it's unclear whether this ban extends to interviews.
