Between today and tomorrow, budget cuts and spending freezes are expected to be announced. Yesterday, President Lula met with the Budget Execution Board to discuss the size of the cuts. Yesterday, the Lower House approved Bill 1466/25, which restructures career paths and adjusts the salaries of federal Executive Branch civil servants. The bill replaces Provisional Measure 1286/24, issued at the end of last year. In the Senate, the Constitution and Justice Committee approved on Wednesday, May 21, a constitutional amendment proposal that ends re-election for the offices of President, Governor, and Mayor, and establishes five-year terms for these positions, as well as for members of Congress (PEC 12/2022). The matter now goes to the Senate floor under an urgent status request.
