Mandetta’s situation

Since this morning, rumors that President Jair Bolsonaro will fire the Minister of Health, Luiz Henrique Mandetta, have increased in intensity. To add to this, the Secretary of Health in the Ministry, Wanderson de Oliveira, considered the formulator of the strategy against the coronavirus, resigned. Mandetta did not accept it and he will continue.​

Wanderson’s resignation, in addition to strengthening the idea that Mandetta’s departure is a “matter of time”, risks the “dismantling” of the structure of the Ministry of Health. Besides the risk of “emptying” the Ministry, we see another challenge for the government if the resignation of Mandetta is confirmed – the emergence of a dispute between Bolsonaro’s allies for the appointment of the new minister. After all, health has become the main topic on the national agenda, giving the portfolio commander great political visibility.
