As of today, according to the Ministry of Health, there are 699 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Brazil, and eight fatalities. It is important to note that the Ministry will no longer release the number of suspected or dismissed cases, only confirmed cases. The Ibovespa closed at 66, 800, down 2.24%. The real closed at 5.02 to the dollar.

The statement by Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta that the health system could collapse in late April has deeply shaken the country's view of its prospects for the coronavirus epidemic. Politically, the declaration should lead to greater political engagement and greater public spending to minimize the effects of an eventual collapse.
