COSTA RICA: Fiscal Reform Bill advances in congress

Despite the turbulence of a widespread strike called since September 10th by several public sector unions, demanding the withdrawal of the fiscal reform bill, the Congress continued its discussion and approved it, by a 35-22 vote, in the first reading on Friday October 5th, 2018. The legislative procedure from now on includes consultation to the Constitutional Court during a maximum term of 30 working days, and then the Congress final approval in a second reading. After that it requires the signing by the president Carlos Alvarado and the publication in the official newspaper to become a valid law.
