Disputed Kyrgyz election results lead to protests

On October 4 Kyrgyzstan held parliamentary elections. President Jeenbekov's allies won. A party needs 7% to get seats in Jororku Kenesh (parliament) Birimduk, Mekenim Kyrgyzstan and the Kyrgyzstan Party are the main pro-government ones. They favor greater integration with the Eurasian Economic Union. Butun is the only opposition party to get seats.Mekenim Kyryzstan had links to the Matraimov family. Raiymbek Matraimov was a senior customs official implicated in a fraud worth USD 100s of millions.The opposition includes the Ata Meken, Respublika, Social Democrats, Bir Bol and Reforma parties. They claim that the election was subject to large scale bogus voting. They made numerous accusations of cheating.
