EU chief tells Central Asia he wants better relations

On October 27 the President of the European Council was in Kazakhstan. He said the EU wants to cooperate more with Central Asia. He used his visit to lacerate the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Charles Michel praised Kazakhstan as a partner. It was Michel's first visit to the country. Michel said that there should be a transparent investigation into the unrest that led to 238 deaths in Kazakhstan in January 2022. While in Kazakhstan Michel met the leaders of all 5 Central Asian nations. In November 2022 there will be an EU-Central Asian conference in Uzbekistan. It seems Russian sway in Central Asia has undergone a diminution. Ukraine is taking up all Russia's attention and money. No Central Asian country has supported Russia over Ukraine but nor have any of these countries condemned it.Â
