EU opens membership talks with Ukraine, history is being made right now

UKRAINE - In Brief 15 Dec 2023 by Dmytro Boyarchuk

European leaders approved to open EU membership talks with Ukraine on December 14th, marking another historic day for the nation. This decision signifies that Ukraine's integration into the EU is not just a dream held by a few but is actively supported by the political leaders of EU member states (except for Hungary under current leadership). The situation could no longer be presented merely as Russia defending its interests in a region of its "historical" influence, but rather as an act of aggression within the EU's sphere of interest. I haven't noticed any widespread euphoria among Ukrainians regarding this decision; only those deeply involved in the process have celebrated with champagne. The renewed heavy ballistic missile strikes on energy infrastructure are currently the primary concern for most people. Nevertheless, December 14th was indeed a pivotal date that our grandchildren will likely learn about in school.
