Politics: Amid signs the race is tightening, uncertainty as to the direction a Sheinbaum government might take

Now that the final leg of the 2024 presidential election campaign is underway, much remains up in the air. Polls continue to offer strikingly different views of the direction in which voter preferences are trending, with many showing the race tightening, and overall, tending to dispel any thesis of preference immobility.

In the event of a Sheinbaum victory, we can’t be sure which Claudia we might get—a reincarnation of her predecessor or someone willing to assume the risks involved in possibly striking out on a path of her own choosing. She constantly reaffirms her dedication to the project implemented by López Obrador, and we have yet to see even a sliver of difference between the proposals they are both promoting. Could such mimicry of AMLO’s policies provide an opening for rival Xóchitl Gálvez?
