Fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan

On November 2, Armenia said that 11 of its soldiers were killed in fighting. The ceasefire is more honored in the breach than in the observance. On November 2, Azerbaijan claimed to have taken back 8 more villages in Nagorno Karabakh and accused the Armenians of shelling civilians. President Aliyev said that his forces will fight until victory unless Armenia withdraws voluntarily. Armenia admits to 1177 soldiers dead out of an army of 50,000. Moscow said it will intervene if Armenia Proper is attacked. It will not defend Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh, which it recognizes as Azerbaijani. Azerbaijanis are emboldened by fulsome Turkish support, Russia's wavering support for Armenia, and Azerbaijan's growing technological edge.
