Fighting between Armenia and AzerbaijanOn July 17 Russia offered to act as a mediator in peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The two Caucasian countries have been firing across the border for 3 days and this has claimed at least 18 lives.Armenia is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CTSO) of which Russia is the main member. Russia has a military base in Armenia. The Armenians are disappointed that despite being in the CTSO Russia will not even support them vocally. The Armenian PM Pashinian is not as pro-Russian as his predecessors. This might explain Moscow's lack of support.Oil rich Azerbaijan has upgraded its military majorly over the past few years. They outnumber the Armenians three to one.
