Fighting heats up between Armenia and Azerbaijan

On November 6 the conflict returned to intensity. The Azerbaijanis shelled Stepankert which is the main city of the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh Region. The Armenians reported 3 civilian deaths. The Azerbaijanis claimed that Armenia had shelled civilians in the town of Tatar. The Azerbaijanis, with weaponry bought from Israel, have decisive technological edge. The Armenians have suffered at least 1177 soldier killed. Their army is 35 000 strong and they cannot continue to sustain such losses. The Minsk Group (Russia, the US and France) have been unable to enforce ceasefires.On October 22 Putin said over 5 000 people have been killed in their conflict. The death toll has risen since. Turkey's military advisers and Turkish supplied Syrian and Libyan fighters have helped Azerbaijan. This has diminished Russian influence. Russian pushback has been surprisingly feeble.
