First Russian draftees killed in Ukraine

On October 14 it was reported that some of those conscripted in September 2022 were killed 10 days after mobilization. Some of those drafted have been lawyers which is unusual. Those drafted are usually working class. Very few Muscovites have been drafted. Draftees are often from impoverished region such as Tuva. Some men drafted in Chelyabinsk were sent to the front without any training and without proper equipment. Most Russian males go for a year of military training at age 18. Those drafted after this are supposed to be given a month refresher course. Even pro-war activists have voiced their anxiety about draftees being sent to the battlefront without training. The 21 September mobilization order for 300,000 men has led to 222,000 men being drafted. On October 14 Putin said that the mobilization will end in late October, when the figure of 300,000 mobilized is reached. Female soldiers have increasingly been sent to fight in Ukraine. Earlier, Russia was striving to avoid this.
