Flights from Russia to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan resume

On March 27 it was announced that flights between the three countries shall restart on April 1, 2021. This will delight migrant workers from Central Asia who have been reduced to absolute poverty for the last 12 months. Flights will be less frequent than before the pandemic. They will start with as few as one per week.On March 26 Russia announced that it is allowing flights to and from Germany, Venezuela, Syria and Sri Lanka.Somon and Utair will fly between Russia and Tajikistan. Remittances from Russia and Tajikistan fell in 2020 to USD 1.7 billion, down from USD 2.5 billion in 2019.Russia is allowing guest workers back because of labor shortages. Central Asians work particularly in sanitation and construction. Over 1 million Uzbeks work in Russia.
