Food prices drive inflation lower

Consumer prices rose at a lower than expected 1% in January (consensus: 1.3%), with the 12-month rate hence falling even sharper to 10.3%, from 11.9% in December. Producer prices also eased significantly to 12.1% from 15.5%, but that was largely because of a sharp drop in energy (more specifically electricity) prices (Graph 1; Table 1).
