Ford to make first electric vehicles in Russia

On March 22 Kommersant reported that the US carmaker will become the first company to produce electric vehicles in Russia. The company will be in partnership with a Russian company called Sollers. The Ford Transit will have an electric version made in Tatarstan from 2022.Sollers anticipated that 4% of the light commercial autos in the country will be electric by 2025. The company wants the state to promote electric vehicles. At the moment there is almost no state support for electric vehicles.The booming online retail sector has led to an increased need for delivery. This is good for light van sales. Electric vans are up to 40% more energy efficient and 20% cheaper than their diesel cousins.There are not many charging points. The takeup of electric vehicles is likely to be slow.
