France to give howitzers to Armenia

On June 18 a deal was made with Armenia. They will be CAESARs, which are self-propelled. The agreement was signed in Paris by the respective defense ministers. Armenia's archenemy is Azerbaijan. Baku will not be happy that France is arming Armenia. Because the EU is trying to wean itself off Russian hydrocarbons, imports from Azerbaijan are growing more important. The Prime Minister of Armenia openly says this country will leave the CSTO, which is a Russian-led military alliance. This would be a humiliation for Russia despite Armenia's contribution to the CSTO's being negligible. Armenia feels badly let down by Russia. But the Armenians need another source of arms bearing in mind they are between two hostile states: Turkey and Azerbaijan. Moscow is unhappy with a NATO country intruding into what it sees as the Russian sphere of influence.
