Gazprom steps up supplies to the EU

The Russian gas major commenced sending more gas to the EU. Gazprom made the announcement on November 9. The EU had castigated Russia from not ramping up the gas supplied as the EU was very short of gas as winter drew on. The EU suspected that Russia was manipulating the market and punishing the EU for sanctions. Russia is eager for the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline to be signed off as safe by German regulators. The EU suspected that Russia was withholding gas to pressurize the EU on the pipeline. But if that is so, why is Russia supplying more gas before the pipeline has been approved? The EU purchases a third of its gas from Russia. Prices dramatically in 2021. The USA suggested that the EU buy more gas from it. Despite this the US was not offering gas at attractive prices. In late October 2021 Putin told Gazprom to supply more gas to the EU. Russia completed filling its gas storage on November 8.
