On June 3 the law was published in the official gazette. The Speaker of Parliament had already signed it into law. The presidential veto was superseded by a parliamentary supermajority. The Speaker claimed that some of those who protested against the bill for months had already changed their minds. There were protests right up to the law's publication. The law takes effect in 60 days which allow law enforcement to prepare for it. Organizations that do not register as a foreign agents will face fines and have assets confiscated. The EU has been frank that there is no way Georgia will ever be allowed to join while the Foreign Agent Law remains on the statute book. The Prime Minister of Georgia said on May 31 that the country will review its relations with the US. The governing party (Georgian Dream) has introduced a bill to promote family values and ensure child protection. Gay rights campaigners say this is an attack on gay rights. The bill would outlaw gender assignment and forbid gay couples from adopting children. It would prohibit people from claiming to be non-binary on official documents and it would outlaw the encouragement of homosexuality. Outside of Tbilisi, Georgia is a very traditionalist society. Family values campaigners are delighted by the bill and are campaigning for it.
