Georgian President vetoes Foreign Agent Bill

On May 18 Salome Zurabashvili said she was vetoing the bill because of its unconstitutionality. The Georgian Dream Party has a super majority in parliament and so could override the presidential veto. They have offered to negotiate with the president and remove the more objectionable clauses in the bill. The president refused to negotiate. The EU warned that the Foreign Agent Bill jeopardizes Georgia's chance of joining the EU. 80% of Georgians aspire to European Union membership.
