German Foreign Minister visits Armenia and Azerbaijan on peace mission

On November 4 and 5 Annalena Baerbock visited the two countries. She is trying to prevent the conflict between the two Caucasian countries from breaking out anew. The European Union is trying to establish itself as a force in the region. Georgia was rejected for EU candidate membership in 2022 but will probably apply again in a few years. Some in Armenia wish to join the EU. In Baku, Miss Baerbock met with Azerbaijani refugees who had fled the Armenian takeover of Nagorno-Karabakh in the 1990s. As Azerbaijan has regained that region they may soon be able to go home. The Azeri media accused Baerbock of lying about the Azeri refugees.
