Government intensifies political articulation

Negotiations are underway with the aim of easing relations between the Planalto Palace and the National Congress. Alongside the military wing’s actions to mend the relationship between Jair Bolsonaro and Rodrigo Maia, the president of the Republic will also meet with the Mayor of Salvador, ACM Neto (DEM), the national president of the party and close to Maia.

Bolsonaro also had a meeting with MDB leaders. Conversations with the DEM and MDB are occurring in parallel to the attempt to tailor an agreement with parties from the center such as PP, PL, PSD and Republicans to isolate Rodrigo Maia. In addition to trying to divide the center, which today is led by the DEM, and to weaken Maia, Jair Bolsonaro is eyeing the succession in the Lower House. The President wants to elect an ally to the speaker position.
