Government withdraws request for urgent status for the Tax Reform proposal

If the request for urgent status (submitted on July 21 along with the proposal) were granted, the text would block the agenda next week, preventing the Lower House from discussing other issues.
According to government leaders, the withdrawal of the urgent status seeks to expedite the voting on the constitutional amendment proposals of the Federative Pact to regulate the triggers of the ceiling of public spending and to de-link revenues and some expenses from the Budget. The approval of these measures will aid in the fiscal austerity effort, helping Bolsonaro create the new social program, Renda Brasil, and allocate more resources for federal projects and investments.
