Government works to finance Renda Cidadã
Senator Márcio Bittar (MDB-AC), rapporteur for the 2021 Budget, announced that the expected delivery of the report on the Federal and Emergency Pact, with the creation of Renda Cidadã, should take place in the next week. From now on, the government will have the challenge of finding a source of financing for the Renda Cidadã program.
According to a source from the team of Minister Paulo Guedes, the limitation of additional spending sources, associated with the so-called "extra-ceiling" would give the federal government about R$ 2 billion more to spend on the Renda Cidadã program. However, the measure alone is not insufficient to finance the new income transfer program that President Jair Bolsonaro wants to implement to replace Bolsa Família.
Thus, finding sources of financing for the new social program continues to challenge the government. While also needing to preserve the spending ceiling and showing its commitment to fiscal responsibility, the government needs to find ways to finance the Renda Cidadã by cutting expenses and creating new revenues in order to sustain a permanent program.
