Growing number of Russians and Ukrainians want to end the war

On November 15 an organization called "Russian Field" carried out an opinion poll and showed that 49% of people wanted to negotiate an end to the war and 39% wanted to fight on. These figures have moved considerably in favor of peace talks since June 2023. The November 2023 poll also showed growing skepticism about official media. An organization called "Chronicle" carried out a poll in October 2023, and it showed falling support for the war. Now more people support withdrawal from Ukraine than those who oppose it. Only 32% of people want to fight on. The Chronicle said that 12% of people are committed to supporting the war no matter what. 18% of people are principled opponents of the war. Most people are somewhere in between. They will support or oppose the war depending on how it is going and how much of a sacrifice it requires and what the peace settlement offered is. On October 31 an opinion poll by the Levada Center showed that 37% of Russian support the war, which is down from 48% in September 2023. It has presumably fallen since. In October 2023. 56% of Russians wanted talks to end the war. Putin has responded to the shifting public opinion and spoken about ending the war through negotiations. In Ukraine polls have shown that a growing number of people are willing to consider an end to the war that involves cession of some land to Russia.
