With less than 15 days before the September 6th presidential election, the political situation in Guatemala continues to deteriorate.Pressure for President Otto Pérez to resign increased Friday 21st, after the Attorney General, Thelma Aldana, and the International Commission Against Corruption Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG), indicated that President Pérez and former Vice President Baldetti were the leaders of the corruption scheme known as "The Line", which affected customs revenues. Former Vice President Baldetti was taken into custody that same night, but President Pérez still benefits from immunity, a benefit that has to be removed by Congress with 105 votes in favor of the action.
