Guedes shows optimism and seeks to soften criticism of Renda Cidadã financing

Minister of the Economy Paulo Guedes spoke about the Renda Cidadã program for the first time since it was announced that it would be financed by resources used for court order payments. According to Guedes, “This will not happen, as this is not a healthy, clean, permanent and predictable source of financing."

The minister also said, "Of course we are going double check everything in order to respect the ceiling and to avoid having proposals break the ceiling or wrongly finance programs, which was never our intention."

Guedes also showed optimism about the more than 249,000 jobs gained in August, according to a poll released today by the General Registry of Employed and Unemployed Workers (Caged). According to Guedes, Congress continues to promote reforms, and President Jair Bolsonaro is supporting economic policy.
