Hopeful forecasts, dubious strategies

The CBRT released the first Inflation Report of the year. The Bank raised its year-end inflation forecast for 2022 by 11.4 percentage points (pps) to 23.2% (midpoint of 18.6% and 27.8%) from 11.8% in the October report. The 2023 forecast was also raised, albeit slightly, by 1.2 pps to 8.2%. The Bank forecasts inflation to ease to the official target of 5% by end-2024.
