India says that Russia is not delivering on arms sales

On March 24 the Indian Air Force made the statement. The IAF has not publicly said what the purchase was that has not been delivered. The IAF stated that Russia has said in writing that it is unable to deliver on schedule. The contract was worth USD 844 million contract, and about USD 740 million worth of that has been delivered already. The Russian inability to provide weapons on time is because Russia has suffered significant equipment losses in Ukraine. Therefore, its military manufacturing has had to prioritize providing for the Russian military needs before it sells arms abroad. India has purchased large quantities of Russian arms for decades. It is Russia's largest single arms export market, buying 20% of all Russian arms sales since 2018. Prime Minister Modi signed a deal with Russia to buy ships, surface-to-air missiles and rifles. These were S 400 Triumf air defense systems. Three have been delivered so far. One of the reasons for the failure to deliver on schedule might be a desire to avoid irking China. Pakistan is a Chinese ally and a deadly foe of India. Russia's growing closeness to China has worried India. Nonetheless, Indian is happy to buy Russian energy at knockdown prices. India has severely scaled back its planned upgrade to its military because it believes that Russia will not deliver on time. Ukraine also sells arms to India. New Delhi has suggested that there should be a ceasefire in Ukraine and the war ended through dialogue. It is not sanctioning Russia.
