Indian PM cancels summit with Russia: Bloomberg

On December 9 it was announced that the summit has been called off the annual Russia India Summit. The rumor is that this is because of Putin's rhetoric on nuclear weapons use in Ukraine. Bloomberg said it has an unnamed Indian Government source. India does not wish to be perceived as unduly pro-Russian as Russia is increasingly unpopular. Since 2000 India and Russia have held a summit every year. India is a vital Russian energy market. On December 7 Putin reminded the world about the increasing risk of nuclear war. It was his first such mention of nukes since October 2022. In September 2022 Modi publicly expressed disapproval of Russia over the Ukraine War. But India has abstained in UN votes on the issue.
