Initial readings from the first presidential debate
Sunday's opening presidential debate gave a glimpse into the electoral strategies of the five presidential candidates. As anticipated, the topics addressed were the economy, education, and human rights and democratic coexistence. The second debate will be held next Sunday, October 8, covering the issues of security, work and production, and human development, housing and environmental protection.
Although there was no winner in the debate between Milei, Massa, and Bullrich, we conclude that Massa managed to emerge less “harmed” than might have been expected, with a clear shift in his political message to the center, at least compared to the Kirchnerist left. Also, Milei moderated his more extreme positions. Bullrich stayed more honest in her initial positions but had probably a more volatile performance.
