International Criminal Court issues arrest warrant for Putin

On March 17 the ICC also issued an arrest warrant for the Russian Children's Rights Commissioner. The ICC said their arrest warrant was issued on suspicion of the mass kidnapping of Ukrainian children. Russia has boasted that it has taken thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia in order to save them. Some of them have been adopted by Russians. Ukraine says that moving these children without parental permission is kidnapping. Most of the children have living parents who are capable of bringing the children up. Russia said that the ICC's warrant had no validity. Russia has not signed the Rome State of the ICC. Putin cannot now safely travel to any ICC member state. However, the US has not signed up to it nor have China, Iran, India, Pakistan, Israel and others. President Biden has welcomed the ICC's arrest warrant.
