International doctors skeptical about Russian coronavirus vaccine

RUSSIA / FSU POLITICS - In Brief 09 Sep 2020 by Alex Teddy

On September 4 an article a UK medical journal called the Lancet published a dubious judgment on Russia's Sputnik V vaccine. Physicians and research scientists have grave doubts about the effectiveness and safety of the drug. The scientific data provided by Russia supposedly include inexplicable duplications relating to the antibody response of volunteers in trials. Professor Bucci of the USA was especially damning. Italian, French, German, Japanese and British immunologists and virologists have also voiced their grave doubts.Six variants of the vaccine were tested on 76 patients. Some patients were tested with variant A, some with variant B and some with variant C etc... Astonishingly precisely the same data about antibody response was produced about more than one group despite each group being treated with a different formulation of the vaccine. By contrast vaccines being tested in the US, UK and China do not produce exactly the same data for different variants of a vaccine. 19 eminent scientists signed the letter. More agreed in spirit but withheld their names for fear of retribution. The Gamaleya Research Center stands by its findings. A poll of Russian doctors showed almost 50% do not trust Sputnuk V. it was produced in an unbelievable short time. The government announced it with such fanfare that the suspicion arose that the vaccine is more about propaganda than healthcare.Data about phases I and II trials of Sputnik V were published in the Lancet on September 2. However, raw data was not provided by the Gamaleya Research Center.
