Iranian satellite launched by Russia

On August 9 the satellite was launched from a Kazakh space station that is run by Russia. It is suspected that this might help Russia to ameliorate its surveillance of Ukraine. The Soyuz rocket carried a Khayyam satellite that is Iranian made. It is now in orbit. Tehran has not criticized Russia over the Ukraine War. Iran suggested that the satellite will not be used for military observation. Iran said that it and not Russia will control the satellite. The purpose is civilian - said Iran. Western intelligence sources suggest that Russia will use it for months and eventually allow Iran to use it. Russia is reliant on partnerships with non-Western countries now because relations with the West are so sour. Putin went to Iran in July 2022. Iran and Russia cooperated on Sina-1 satellite in 2005. Tehran wants Moscow's help with its nuclear energy program. Satellite launch capabilities involve technologies that could be applicable to nuclear missiles. Iran denies ever seeking to attain nuclear arms. Iran is one of the few fairly strong countries in the world with which Russia has a genuinely warm relationship. The Russians and Iranians found common cause in fighting in Syria.
